CMR To Make Debut In LMSC at Myrtle Beach
Terry Evans Tapped as Driver of CMR #20 Late Model

NASCAR Sprint Cup and Camping World Truck Series driver Chad McCumbee has announced his plans to try ownership in the Whelen All-American Series.  McCumbee is a graduate of Late Model Stock cars, racing at Myrtle Beach speedway in 2003 and 2004.

Terry Evans from Supply, NC will be the driver of the #20 Chad McCumbee Racing Chevrolet Monte Carlo.  Evans will compete on a weekly basis at Myrtle Beach Speedway during the 2009 racing season.  This season will be Evans’ rookie season but also CMR’s rookie season as a new team. “It has always been important to me that you respect where you came from and try to give back.  Late Model Stock racing means a lot to me and so does the Myrtle Beach Speedway. I’m really excited about getting this thing going.  I know there will be challenges, but hopefully we can have a successful first year,” said McCumbee.

A veteran of MBS in the mini stock division, Evans enters the Late Model world with momentum.  In 2008 he won 5 races in a 10 race schedule making him one of the most dominant mini stock drivers all season. Evans has encompassed over 100 go-kart wins in his career and also won in his first year of stock car racing at Myrtle Beach. “Terry has always been a top competitor in everything I’ve seen him race,” said team owner Chad McCumbee.  “He has the same background in which I had coming up.  He started karting at age 10 and moved up from there to a four cylinder stock car division.”

The team’s primary focus at this point is to run a full schedule at Myrtle Beach Speedway and hopefully travel to a few other tracks in North and South Carolina.  Evans has set high goals for his debut season.  “I am eager to learn, and feel that working with such a talented group of people at CMR will only compliment what I have to offer. My goal is to not only race at a competitive level, but also to be in contention for wins,” said the Late Model rookie.  “I feel fortunate to have such a great opportunity.  I can’t thank Chad and everyone at CMR enough for their confidence in me.  I want to progress each and every week placing top fives, striving to make this 2009 season a success.”

Chad McCumbee is currently still tied as the youngest pole and race winner in MBS track history. He is also coming off his most successful year in the top ranks of NASCAR.  Chad finished off the 2008 season 11th in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series points, with a best finish of 2nd at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in May.  Petty Enterprises again hired McCumbee to drive in the Sprint Cup Series in 2008, qualifying for 6 events with a best finish of 17th at Pocono Raceway.  Chad will return to the Camping World Truck Series in 2009.
